What is a Slab Leak?

Your home, if it is like the vast majority of other homes in this country, is built on a large concrete foundation, called a slab. The slab is supposed to stabilize the home and prevent it from moving due to erosion or other earth movement. Underneath that slab are a number of pipes, notably your water line and your sewer line. These are both vital to the proper operation of your home’s plumbing systems. When one of those pipes springs a leak, the water from it filters up through the slab and into your home. This is called a slab leak.

Why Slab Leaks are Such a Threat

There are two components that combine to make slab leaks such a huge threat:

  • They are very difficult to detect: Slab leaks often aren’t noticed by homeowners until they see water inexplicably gushing up from under the floor.
